The AMBOSS Level 1 Self-Assessment includes 160 exam-style questions modeled on COMLEX® Level 1, designed to reflect the structure, reasoning, and clinical focus of the exam. You’ll work through four timed blocks of 40 questions, just like you will in the real exam.
The assessment can be completed at your own pace, at any time in the 7-day window (February 25 to March 3).
You’ll have unlimited free access to AMBOSS during this week, as well as for a few days after it, so that you can review your score report.
From February 25th to March 3, 2026, AMBOSS’s COMLEX Level 1 Self-Assessment will be free for you to take. When you sign up, you’ll get free access to AMBOSS throughout that week and for an additional few days after so that you can review your score report and recommended learning resources.
Yes, you’ll need an AMBOSS account to access the Self-Assessment. If you don’t have an AMBOSS account yet, create yours for free here. It only takes a few minutes to verify your email address and complete your profile.
Important: When you sign up for the Self-Assessment, make sure you use the same email address you used for your AMBOSS account, so your Self-Assessment access is set up correctly.
You will receive an email from us on February 25th with a link to access and begin the Self-Assessment. Please make sure you sign up before then!
Yes, our self-assessment reflects the relative distribution of topics on the actual COMLEX exam. Following the NBOME® announcement that communication and interpersonal skills questions would now feature more prominently on the exam, the Level 1 Self-Assessment will reflect that.
We recommend that you complete the exam in one sitting, since this is the best way to simulate the actual exam and build your stamina. That said, we understand you have a busy schedule! For that reason, there’s an option to split the Self-Assessment up into chunks and take each block at any point throughout the week.
The Self-Assessment exam is made up of four blocks, each including 40-questions. After answering all 40 questions in a block, you will have the option to review the completed block’s correct answers and explanations or to continue with the rest of the exam.
You will also be able to go back and see your completed blocks and review your answers at any time during the Self-Assessment week.
The completed Self-Assessment will be available for you to review until March 9th, 2025, at 23:59 PST.
The Self-Assessment is not available on the AMBOSS app. Although it is possible to take it on the web browser of your mobile device, we strongly recommend taking it on your desktop device.
3-digit score: Even though Level 1 is now pass/fail, over 95% of students surveyed said they’d still like to receive a 3-digit score! The score is a jumping-off point so you can gauge your progress and see what you need to do to comfortably pass Level 1 (and go on to score high on Level 2-CE!).
Study recommendations: You will also receive a list of performance-based topics that have been optimized for the latest Level 1 format. These will help you focus on the high-yield topics that will have the greatest positive impact on your exam preparation.
Just like the real Level 1 exam, the AMBOSS Level 1 Self-Assessment places students on a scale relative to their peers who are taking the assessment at the same time. Our questions are tested and have been scrutinized by students in prior years, and we’re confident our questions are high-quality and representative of what you will see on the actual exam. Our score report also reflects the relative distribution of topics on the actual COMLEX exam.
Yes! The Level 1 Self-Assessment is a great tool, no matter what stage of prep you’re at. Your score report will help you measure how ready you are and give you targeted resources you can use to fill your knowledge gaps. This is super helpful whether you’re testing next week or not for a long time.
You can sign up for AMBOSS Level 1 Self-Assessment week here.
AMBOSS Level 1 Self-Assessment week goes from February 25, 2026 to March 3, 2026. You will receive an email on February 25 that will prompt you to begin the exam.
The scoring of this exam replicates that of the actual Level 1 exam and is scaled in comparison to your peers taking the exam at the same time. For this reason, it will not be possible to take the Self-Assessment after March 3 at 11:59pm PST.
You must complete all four blocks of the AMBOSS COMLEX Level 1 Self-Assessment by March 3 at 11:59 PM PST to receive your score report. The report will be delivered via email no later than March 6, 2026.
The Self-Assessment can only be taken between February 25th, 2026, and March 3rd, 2026. You don’t need to do it all at once – you can choose the times that fit your schedule best within that week. Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to take the Self-Assessment outside of that timeframe. This is because we have set up the scoring of this exam the same way the real exam is scored: your performance is scaled alongside the performance of your peers taking the exam at the same time.
Yes, you’ll be able to access and review your completed Self-Assessment question blocks even after the event is over, for as long as you have access to AMBOSS.
Please note: once the Self-Assessment is submitted, you won’t be able to change any of your answers. You will also be able to go to the Analysis section of the platform for a general overview of your strengths and weaknesses, plus a list of recommendations.
