Gave me the extra confidence I needed in myself before the start of residency. Especially for acute situations.
I like how the bootcamp presented cases of common scenarios. I experienced many, if not all, within the first couple of weeks of residency.
Walking me through step by step helped isolate the individual decisions needing to be made. Very reassuring.

The Intern Bootcamp is a high-impact course designed to prepare incoming interns for critical on-call “pager alerts” they’re likely to encounter early in residency. Each of the 10 cases focuses on the decisions that must be made in the minutes immediately following the “pager alert,” when the intern is often still alone without backup. At the end of each case, 5 topic-related questions reinforce key concepts.

The Intern Bootcamp is specifically designed for time-constrained interns, since each case can be completed in about 10 minutes.

The AMBOSS Intern Bootcamp takes a "rubber-meets-the-road" approach. In addition to reviewing initial management steps, it addresses real but often overlooked questions interns face, such as “Is this change in vital signs serious enough to require examining the patient?” or “I think I need backup, but who should I call?”

Other unique aspects include:

  • Microlearning approach: Each interactive case takes only 10 minutes to complete, reducing stress during an already overwhelming transition.
  • Engaging cases: Cases include relatable scenarios, splashes of humor, and practice opportunities for key skills like reading chest x-rays or identifying abnormal lung sounds.
  • Actionable insights: Modules include "attending pearls" and real-world stories from AMBOSS clinicians.

Yes, the bootcamp has been used by thousands of residents across U.S. residency programs. Of surveyed users, 94.7% found the Bootcamp useful in increasing their confidence as an intern and stated they would recommend it to future interns.

The bootcamp is accessible on the web application within the Learning tab. Go to Study Plans and you’ll find "Intern Bootcamp: Lifesaving Essentials" under the “Subspecialties & Intern Bootcamp” section.

The Intern Bootcamp is included in any standard AMBOSS membership at no additional cost.
