Abbreviation: TTP
A thrombotic microangiopathy in which microthrombi, consisting primarily of platelets, form and occlude the microvasculature. Caused by reduced activity of the protease ADAMTS13. Associated with a pentad of symptoms: thrombocytopenia, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, neurologic abnormalities, acute kidney injury, and fever.
