Abbreviation: PCOS
An endocrinologic disorder characterized by oligomenorrhea/amenorrhea, infertility, obesity, virilization and presence of polycystic ovaries. Although the exact pathophysiology is unknown, it is thought to be due to reduced peripheral insulin sensitivity, causing excess androgen production.
