Palpation of the abdomen

A part of the abdominal examination. With the patient lying supine, palpate superficially (light pressure) to assess the abdominal wall and then transition to deep (stronger pressure) to assess intraabdominal organs. Observe the patient's face during palpation to gauge intensity and location of pain. Tenderness during palpation has a broad differential that can be narrowed down based on the specific location (e.g., right lower quadrant pain as a sign of appendicitis).
