A type of cell derived from the neural plate, which itself derives from neuroectoderm. These cells give rise to the adrenal medulla, pigment cells, Schwann cells, meninges (pia and arachnoid mater), pharyngeal arch cartilage, odontoblast, aorticopulmonary septum, endocardial cushions, and cranial bones.
