Hepatosplenomegaly

Abbreviation: HSM

An enlargement of the spleen (splenomegaly) and liver (hepatomegaly). Splenomegaly is defined as any of the following: palpable 8 cm below the costal arch, > 20 cm in diameter, or > 1000 g in weight. Hepatomegaly is defined as > 16 cm in the midclavicular line by ultrasound. Can be caused by various conditions, including malignancy, infection, or venous congestion.
