An autoimmune disease characterized by the presence of circulating antibodies against type IV collagen in the glomerular and pulmonary capillary basement membranes. Can cause a spectrum of illness, ranging from minimally symptomatic disease to pulmonary-renal syndrome with hemoptysis, cough, dyspnea, and rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis.
