The rate at which fluid is filtered through the kidneys (specifically, from glomerular capillaries into the Bowman capsule). In clinical practice, creatinine clearance is a useful surrogate measure for GFR (but typically overestimates actual GFR). Can be approximated with various formulas as estimated GFR (eGFR).
