An oral medication that contains both estrogen and progesterone. In addition to working as a contraceptive, these medications are used to treat polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, amenorrhea, and other conditions. Adverse effects include an increased risk of venous thromboembolism, hypertension, and hepatic adenoma.
