A syndrome characterized by markedly decreased or excessive motor activity and/or decreased reactivity to the environment (e.g., during a medical evaluation). Usually associated with a psychiatric condition (e.g., bipolar disorder or schizophrenia) but can also be associated with medical conditions. Manifestations include stupor, staring, mutism, posturing, grimacing, and/or echolalia.
