A protein whose functions include maintenance of colloid osmotic pressure and transportation of enzymes and degradation products. Produced exclusively by the liver and comprises the majority of total plasma proteins (~60%). Levels decrease with decreased hepatic synthesis, urinary protein loss, and malnutrition.
