ABO incompatibility

A cause of hemolytic disease in the fetus or newborn in which maternal antibodies against antigens of the ABO system enter fetal circulation. Can also refer to an acute hemolytic transfusion reaction that occurs when a patient receives blood against which they have antibodies (e.g. a person with type O blood has anti-A and anti-B antibodies and will react against type A, type B, and type AB blood).
